Woodpeckers

Woodpeckers

When you hear the rat-a-tat-tat sound early in the morning on the side of your house, it usually indicates you are going to have a problem. This is more than just an annoying sound that wakes you up early in the morning on the weekend; it is more likely a wake-up call that your home has been incorporated into the woodpecker telecommunications system. Nine times out of ten, woodpecker damage to the home is the result of drumming or audio marking of the woodpecker’s territory. This can be the result of competition for food to competition for a nesting area during the breeding season. Woodpeckers do not vocalize like other perching passerines (birds), but mark their territory by hammering on dead standing trees or your home that is possibly in their territory. Sometimes the actions of these birds can also indicate that you have a problem with carpenter bumblebees in the rake boards. Here in Connecticut, the Downey woodpecker and the Hairy woodpecker are the main culprits behind this damage. We have been working with woodpeckers for years and have several methods of controlling their damaging activities. We will be most happy to visit your home and evaluate the site as to the best solution for this situation. Please Note: No two woodpecker problems are the same.
